We have mapped the beaches of joy, all-day fun and youth vibrations. Coasts of hippie heart, winds’ “lovers” and top beaches for water sports. A report on the famous Mykonos beaches.

Agios Ioannis or Ah Yannis

The beach which is named by the small picturesque church of Saint John that decks the coast, is thought to be the absolute spot of Mykonos from where you can scan Delos and feel its energy. The setting is ideal; golden sands, crystal clear sea and the sacred island of antiquity right in the horizon. It will be your choice, if you are looking for calm and nice fish-taverns by the sea. Info: 3,5km SW of Chora. Parking requires good nerves. Parking spots are quite limited.

Agios Stefanos

Agios Stefanos beach has plain and shallow waters, family mood and is very close to the new port; all features that make the beach perfect for kids and married couples. By the coastline, there are drawn up several restaurants, taverns, café-bars and hotels that are responsible for the admittedly good beach service. The sunset with a view at Delos and Rineia is amazing. Info: 3km on the north of Chora. Have a lunch at one of the fish-taverns of the beach which are known for the fresh fish and seafood.

Agrari

Leeward seashore located in the SW part of the island. A peaceful and low profile beach, recommended to those who want to avoid the crowds. The set there is a Mykonian classic; sand that becomes one with sea, umbrellas, deck-chairs and water sports. Info: 9km away from Chora. Given that the road is narrow with sharp turns, you should get to Agrari by boat from Platis Gialos.

Lia

Far-off there in the south… A beautiful beach with emerald waters, deck-chairs, umbrellas, WC and showers. Info: 11,5km from Chora. Next to Lia are the solitary beaches Tsagari and Pano-Kato Tigani, accessible only to those who have a 4X4.

Megali Ammos

In every sense! It was the first beach discovered by the tourists thank to its short distance from the Center, up to the road for Ornos. It seems perfect for those without their own transport as you can go on foot. Info: 2km on the south of Chora. The north wind is quite present there, that means it is suitable for surfing.

Ornos

Families and mostly Greeks are regulars to this much frequented organized beach of Mykonos. The small fish port is south oriented and has everything; taverns, restaurants, café-bars, deck-chairs & umbrellas, rooms to let and wi-fi connexion for the internet-obsessed. Many cutters and yachts anchor at this leeward bay while from here leave the boats to Super Paradise, Paradise, Agrari and Elia. Info: 4km from Chora. Prefer a bike to get there, given that parking is limited to the square in front of the beach.

Paradise or Kalamopodi

The definition of all day wild fun! The immense beach with the magical sea and coarse sand keeps up with the vibes of the beach bars that you can find here. In the daily agenda of Paradise you may find endless parties, countless shots and loud music. We give an A for its organization as provides umbrellas, deck-chairs, showers, a mini market, rooms to let and beach bars. Info: 5,5km on the South of Chora. It is also accessible by boat from Ornos or Platis Gialos.

Panormos

A northern bay with limpid waters. Prone to north winds, it is ideal for figures with surfing boards. Thanks to the lounge atmosphere, the beach bars which have are famous for the perfect service, and the wild beauty of the landscape, there is no doubt that Panormos will be one of your favourite destinations. Info: 5km on the North of Chora. At Panormos you will find poufs instead of deck-chairs. So, straws are considered obligatory.

Paraga

The small but organized beach enjoys an eminent position in the hearts of the youth and other party animals. The combination of sugary sand and blue waters is noticeable here as well; the view to ancient Delos and the rock in the middle of the sea compliment the enchanting setting. Info: 5km on the South of Chora. If you look for something quieter, you should direct to the neighbouring beach of Agia Anna which is less crowed.

Platis Gialos

A golden, organized, athletic and broad (“platis” is the word for broad in Greek) -as its name let us imagine- beach along of which spread plenty hotels and restaurants. Platis Gialos mainly is preferred by families, tourists and water sports fans. Info: 5km on the South of Chora. From here depart the boats for Super Paradise, Paradise, Agrari, Paraga and Elia.

The most famous beach spot of Mykonos where cheerfulness knows no limits. Info: 6,5km SE of Chora.

Ftelia

Its motto could be the “Gone with the Wind”. Ftelia, located in the bay of Panormos, unprotected by the north wind, with the furious air and the high waves, has no rivals as far as the windsurfing is concerned. The clear emerald waters play second fiddle as the rage of the sea and master surfers seem to steal the show. Info: 9km on the north of Chora. About in the middle of the beach, you will find remnants of the Neolithic settlement which thrived in the area in 4.500 bC.

Fokos

An inaccessible bay in the northern part of Mykonos, with waters that deepen rather suddenly and craggy rocks. If you are seeking for something different, the wildness of the landscape which is very distant from the usual Cycladic setting, will come up to your expectations. Nudists, people in a hippy mood, loners and natives prefer this beach because of its fantastic sensation of isolation that offers. You can get some water, snacks or whatever you may need from the tavern Fokos. Info: 17km on the north of Chora. You will find it by following the signs to Ano Mera and Maou. After the barrier, the asphalted becomes dirt road.

Psarrou

The delight of celebrities and VIPs up to the road to Platis Gialos. Without any exaggerations, all –and I mean all- socialites of the island are gathered in the famous inlet with the crystal warm waters and the golden sand in order to enjoy the 5star beach service. Beautiful people, well-lined wallets, luxurious yachts in the close-up and one of the hottest beach bars of the world (N’ ammos) compose the luxurious profile of Psarrou. As a disadvantage you should have in mind the limited free parking spots. N’ ammos owns the parking. Info: 4,5km on the south of Chora.
